Carol Anne Barone
I was the kid who cut all the hair off her barbie doll…
I liked to change my toys and figure out how they worked… Like my green-velvet-bean-bag-frog whose scar is barely noticeable.
My childhood curiosity developed into skills which led me to study electrical engineering in college. The corporate career lasted twelve years until the barbie-doll-head-shaving-bean-bag-surgeon-kid busted out of her penny loafers and traded circuit design for jewelry design.
Bracelets were my first - glass beads on stretchy cord. It was 2002 and they were all the rave. A shop owner in downtown Denison bought all of them and offered to sell my next batch on consignment, which I did for several years. Her support and encouragement gave me the kick-in-the-pants I needed to grow my business and create Dead Tree Designs.
I use my same childhood curiosity to experiment and find my own way of doing things. I’m inspired by the diamond-in-the-rough - broken shells, rocks, driftwood, that jar of old buttons in the antique store… the more broken, dirty, faded and rusty, the more I like it. The engineer in me keeps the doll barber in check and I think you will see that in the quality of my designs.

Thru Dead Tree Designs, I have come to know many amazing artists. Seeing a need for local artist to have easy access to the public, my friends and I rented a neighborhood clubhouse and hosted our first pop up art show. Everyone had a blast, and within two months we booked the following year's show. And that is how GroovyCAB Events was born.
